Pharmacy can be a challenging and frustrating career path, according to Pharmacy Times readers. But they also said pharmacy is a profession filled with the satisfaction of knowing you have affected patients’ lives.

Sunday was National Pharmacist Day, and we asked on Facebook why you entered the pharmacy field, and why you continue to believe in the importance of the profession. Here are a few of your answers:

“The face-to-face interaction with customers, and no 2 days are ever alike. There is always a challenge to overcome. Serving as a patient care advocate, assuring the health and wellbeing of the community through clinical services and medication knowledge is what I love about the profession. I am a pharmacist, and I strive to be this and more for the fellow patients [that] I serve, and why I chose to pursue this career.” — Rosana M.

“I love the day-to-day patient interaction and the privilege of helping people live well and also to die well.” — Kate P.

“I had a teacher in high school that made us choose 3 professions we would consider. The more I explored, the more I wanted to be a pharmacist. I have never questioned my choice. So many of my patients became friends, and I really like the continuous learning.” — Barbara P.

“It always gave me tremendous pleasure to help …  people, in guiding their medication. It [has] been very interesting to discuss various drug interactions with different health officials.” — M. Amin F.

“To add my quota to improving the health-care index of the nation. Pharmacy remains an important profession because of its multi-dimensions linkage to the various aspects of health-care.” — Ikutemi E.
