Former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly praised comedian Jon Stewart for his impassioned defense of 9/11 first responders at a congressional hearing Tuesday.
“Jon Stewart emerging as a national hero in trying to secure benefits for 9/11 responders with severe health problems. Stewart scolded some Congress people today. Well done,” O’Reilly tweeted before promoting his own website.

The former host of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” was at times reduced to tears Tuesday as he testified before a sparsely-attended congressional subcommittee dedicated to the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, which runs out of money in 2020.
“You should be ashamed of yourselves for those that aren’t here,” Stewart scolded the absent members of the House Judiciary Committee subcommittee. “But you won’t be, because accountability doesn’t appear to be something that occurs in this chamber.”
Stewart has long devoted himself to advocating for the first responders who have suffered from the lasting effects of the toxins released during the collapse of the World Trade Center on 9/11.
Stewart left his hit Comedy Central show in 2015. O’Reilly also left television in 2017 amid allegations of sexual harassment.
