Seafood can be delicious and cooked healthfully to get the benefits of minerals, vitamins, protein, and healthy fats often contained in seafood. Crab cakes are one of many recipe requests we’ve heard from the NS community to give this dish an NS makeover. Typically crab cakes that you purchase from the store are packed with filler ingredients such as bread and less quality crab meat — we made this recipe with gluten-free bread crumbs so no matter what lifestyle you practice you can enjoy these crab cakes.
When we think of seafood meals, we always want the ingredients to complement each other, which means less of the bread and oil from frying, and more fresh herbs and fresh crab meat.

Animal proteins aren’t part of everyone’s diet or lifestyle choice so for that reason, we try our best to come up with recipes that can easily substitute alternative protein sources for animal proteins. We even have a great article called the Guide to Eating Animal Proteins that can help you learn more about the process and even provides some excellent NS approved places to purchase animal proteins.
These Baked Crab Cakes are just as delicious with imitation crab, but you can even use firm tofu as a protein substitute! Just crumble the tofu and follow the same recipe steps and ingredients. If you don’t enjoy tofu, you can also try making these with mashed chickpeas, but you will need the egg or an egg replacer to bind the dish together.
