Two Manhattan restaurants want to change the way you think about Indian food.
East Village gastro bar Baar Baar, at 13 E. 1st St., has designed health-conscious options for those watching their carbs after December indulgences.
Slim-down offerings include the paneer pinwheel, with red pepper makhana — otherwise known as fox nuts or lotus seeds — for those on the Keto, or fat-focused, diet.
Followers of the Whole30 diet — or no processed foods, grains, legumes, soy and dairy for 30 days— might try the monkfish and seafood Alleppey curry, with sunchoke and fennel oil; while so-called “flexitarians” have options like the grain and vegetable pulao.
Meanwhile, Gupshup, a modern Indian bi-level space at 115 E. 18th Street, has launched a “Bombay Brunch” on the weekends — and lunch and happy hour are next, says chef Gurpreet Singh.
Little Greek-style goodies are coming to the Bowery.
A tapas bar called Karvouna (charcoal in Greek) Mezze, an outlet from chef Giuseppe Scalco of the steakhouse Merakia, joining with partners Dimitris Vlahakis and Wei Chen, is opening at 241 Bowery between Prince and Stanton streets.
WE HEAR … that Birch Coffee is opening its 11th location at The Fifth Avenue, a luxury condo at 1325 and 1330 Fifth Avenue across from Central Park. The South Harlem spot is 1,000 square feet and slated to open this June. “We’re excited to welcome Birch to the building. It’s a great convenience and amenity for potential buyers and residents,” says MNS’s Andrew Barrocas, who reps The Fifth.
